Ingredients

  • 3 cups milk
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup peanut butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pound butter or oleo, softened
  • 2 tablespoons grated orange rind
  • 4 slices day-old bread, broken up

Instructions

  1. Combine milk, sugar, and peanut butter in a bowl. Beat with an eggbeater until smooth.
  2. Heat the mixture on low until scalding.
  3. Gradually add the hot mixture to the beaten eggs, stirring constantly.
  4. Add salt, softened butter, grated orange rind, and broken bread slices. Stir well.
  5. Pour the mixture into a buttered 1 1/2-quart baking dish.
  6. Set the dish in a pan of hot water.
  7. Bake at 350°F for 1 hour.
  8. Serve warm or cold.
