Sweet and fragrant pear butter jam combines ripe pears with sugar and spices, offering a comforting spread perfect for breakfast or snacks, suitable for fruit lovers and home canners.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 gallon pears
  • 4 cups sugar
  • 1 pint light Karo syrup
  • nutmeg or cinnamon to taste

Instructions

  1. Boil pears until soft.
  2. Put the boiled pears through a food mill.
  3. Add sugar and light Karo syrup to the pear puree.
  4. Can put the mixture in a roaster in the oven at low heat or on top of the stove until the right consistency.
  5. When cooking on top of the stove, extra care must be taken to avoid scorching.
  6. Add nutmeg or cinnamon to taste.
  7. Ladle the pear butter into jars and seal.
