Ingredients

  • 6 pear halves
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup slivered almonds
  • 1/2 cup sour cream

Instructions

  1. Drain the pear halves and set aside.
  2. Cream together the margarine and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt, then add to the creamed mixture and mix well.
  4. Press the batter into an 8- to 9-inch pan or pie plate.
  5. Arrange the pear halves cut side down on top of the batter.
  6. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15 minutes.
  7. In a separate bowl, beat the egg yolk, brown sugar, and sour cream until smooth.
  8. Pour this mixture over the baked pears in the pan.
  9. Sprinkle the slivered almonds evenly over the top.
  10. Bake for an additional 30 to 35 minutes until the top is browned and the cake is cooked through.
