Ingredients

  • 8 cups flour
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons coarse ground pepper
  • 2 tablespoons fennel seed
  • 1 package powdered yeast (1/4 oz.)
  • 1 1/4 cups Mazola oil
  • 2 1/2 cups warm water

Instructions

  1. Mix 1/4 cup warm water with yeast and let stand about 1/2 minute.
  2. Add the yeast mixture to the flour mixture along with all other ingredients.
  3. Mix well and knead for about 10 minutes.
  4. Make small rolls and let rise in a warm place for about 4 hours.
  5. Roll out small pieces of dough into the size of a cigarette, about 16 to 18 inches long, twist, and form into round circles.
  6. Brush the shaped dough with beaten egg.
  7. Bake in a 375°F oven for 20 to 25 minutes.
