Perfect Icebox Rolls

Soft, buttery icebox rolls with a slightly sweet flavor, perfect for breakfast or dinner sides. Easy to prepare ahead and enjoy fresh baked goodness.

Ingredients

  • 6 cups unsifted flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup Crisco shortening
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cakes compressed yeast
  • 1/4 cup lukewarm water
  • butter

Instructions

  1. Cream sugar and shortening together until well combined.
  2. Add boiling water to the mixture and stir well.
  3. Allow the mixture to cool slightly before adding cold water.
  4. Beat eggs and dissolve yeast in lukewarm water, then add to the mixture.
  5. Combine salt with flour and sift into the mixture, stirring well but do not knead.
  6. Cover the dough and place in the refrigerator overnight.
  7. Remove dough from refrigerator and on a floured surface, shape into rolls by rolling out and cutting.
  8. Place rolls on cookie sheets and allow to rise for 2 hours.
  9. Bake in a 425°F oven for 15 minutes.
  10. Remove from oven and brush rolls with butter.
