Ingredients

  • 7 1/2 cups plain flour
  • 2 packages dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (120 to 130 degrees F)
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons sesame seed (optional)
  • 1 beaten egg (for glaze top)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixer bowl, stir together 2 cups of flour, dry yeast, sugar, and salt.
  2. In the center of the bowl, beat in warm water at medium speed for 2 minutes.
  3. Reduce mixer speed to low, beat in 2 more cups of flour, mayonnaise, and eggs for 2 minutes.
  4. Beat at medium speed for an additional 2 minutes.
  5. Stir in just enough of the remaining flour to make an easily handled dough, about 3 cups.
  6. On a floured surface, knead the dough for 10 minutes.
  7. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover.
