Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon warm water
  • 3 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/4 cups nonfat milk
  • 6 teaspoons melted butter
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 6 plums, pitted and cut into thin wedges

Instructions

  1. Dissolve the dry yeast in warm water and set aside.
  2. Combine flour, 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Stir in nonfat milk, 5 tablespoons melted butter, vanilla, and yeast mixture until well combined.
  4. Pat the dough into an 11 x 12-inch rectangle on a lightly buttered baking sheet.
  5. Arrange the plum wedges slightly overlapping to cover the top of the dough.
  6. Brush the plums with the remaining 1 tablespoon melted butter.
  7. Combine 1/4 cup sugar and cardamom in a small bowl.
  8. Sprinkle the sugar and cardamom mixture evenly over the top of the cake.
  9. Bake at 375°F for 30 to 40 minutes, or until the center tests done.
  10. Cool to warm and serve.
