Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup Crisco
  • 4 eggs
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons lemon flavoring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F.
  2. Cream sugar and shortening together until smooth.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Sift together flour, soda, and salt.
  5. Alternately add dry ingredients and buttermilk to the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
  6. Add lemon flavoring and vanilla extract.
  7. Beat the mixture for 15 minutes.
  8. Pour batter into a greased and floured tube pan.
  9. Bake for about 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
