Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. dates
  • 1 1/2 c. boiling water
  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 2 3/4 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1 c. chopped nuts
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Add chopped dates, sugar, salt, shortening and boiling water in a bowl.
  2. Let stand until cool.
  3. Add the remaining ingredients; mix well.
