- Dissolve yeast in warm water.
- Add shortening, sugar, salt, and 2 cups of flour; blend well.
- Beat for 2 minutes, scraping the bowl occasionally.
- Stir in remaining flour until smooth.
- Scrape batter from sides of bowl.
- Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 30 minutes.
- Stir the dough batter by beating 25 to 30 strokes.
- Spread evenly in a greased 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan.
- Pat the top with floured hands to shape and smooth.
- Cover and let rise until doubled, about 40 minutes.
- Heat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake for 45 minutes or until the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
- Brush the top with melted butter.
- Remove from pan and cool on a wire rack.
