Ingredients

  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 egg yolk
  • milk (enough to make 2/3 cup in all)
  • 1 cup crushed corn flakes
  • thinly sliced apples
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 cup confectioners sugar

Instructions

  1. Mix the flour, sugar, and salt together in a bowl.
  2. Cut in the shortening using a pastry blender or two knives until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Beat the egg yolk in a cup with a fork; add enough milk to make 2/3 cup in total.
  4. Lightly mix the dry ingredients with the egg yolk mixture to form a dough.
  5. Divide the dough in half.
  6. Roll out each half to fit onto a cookie sheet.
  7. Cover the rolled-out pastry with 1 cup crushed corn flakes.
  8. Top with a thick layer of thinly sliced apples.
