Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 can cherry pie filling
  • powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 13 x 9-inch cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the butter and granulated sugar until smooth.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time; beat until light and fluffy.
  4. Stir in the almond extract.
  5. Mix in the all-purpose flour and baking powder until the batter is smooth.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread evenly.
  7. Spoon cherry pie filling onto the batter in 16 spots across the surface.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 to 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow to cool slightly, then sprinkle the top with powdered sugar before serving.
