Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 1 c. warm water
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbsp. shortening
  • 2 3/4 c. flour

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in 1 cup of warm water in a large bowl.
  2. Add sugar, salt, egg, shortening, and 1 cup of flour to the yeast mixture.
  3. Beat until smooth.
  4. Stir in remaining flour and continue stirring until smooth.
  5. Scrape batter from the side of the bowl.
  6. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 30 minutes.
  7. Stir the batter and turn onto a floured surface.
  8. Divide into 12 equal parts.
  9. Shape each part into a smooth ball with lightly greased fingers.
  10. Place the balls in a greased 9 x 9-inch pan.
  11. Let rise until doubled, about 20 to 30 minutes.
  12. Beat egg white with 1 tablespoon of water slightly and brush over the rolls.
  13. Sprinkle with seeds.
  14. Bake at 400°F for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
