Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup chopped nuts or raisins
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3.5 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder

Instructions

  1. Beat eggs and sugar until light, then add milk, salt, and raisins and mix well.
  2. Add melted shortening to the mixture.
  3. Sift all-purpose flour.
  4. Measure and sift again with baking powder, then stir into the first mixture.
  5. Fill greased and floured bread pans half full of the mixture and let stand for 20 minutes.
  6. Bake for 60 minutes in a moderate oven (350°).
