Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 packages dry yeast
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1/4 cup margarine
  • 2 well beaten eggs

Instructions

  1. Mix warm water, 2 tablespoons sugar, and dry yeast in a large bowl.
  2. Add enough flour to make a batter.
  3. Cover and let rise until light, about 30 minutes.
  4. Scald milk.
  5. Add 2 tablespoons sugar, salt, margarine, and eggs to the milk.
  6. Cool the mixture to lukewarm.
  7. Add the cooled milk mixture to the yeast mixture.
  8. Add flour gradually to make a stiff dough.
  9. Knead the dough well.
  10. Place in a covered bowl and let rise for 30 minutes.
  11. Shape the dough into rolls or a loaf.
  12. Let rise for another 30 minutes.
  13. Bake rolls at 400°F for 20 minutes.
  14. Bake loaves at 350°F for 30 minutes.
