"Quickie" Sauerbraten

Ingredients

  • 5 lb. lean beef
  • 1 pt. chili sauce
  • 1 1/2 c. vinegar
  • 5 c. water
  • 4 tsp. salt
  • 3 large onions
  • 12 bay leaves
  • 18 whole cloves
  • 4 Tbsp. sugar
  • pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Place meat in large kettle with all ingredients.
  2. Simmer 2 or 3 hours until meat is tender.
  3. Remove meat.
  4. Strain gravy into large bowl.
  5. Replace in kettle and thicken with flour and water mixture.
  6. Slice meat and combine with thickened gravy.
  7. Serve over noodles.
