Ingredients

  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 cup Crisco
  • 1 tablespoon Red Superior butternut flavoring
  • 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
  • Grated rind of 1 orange
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups sifted sugar
  • 6 eggs
  • 3 1/2 cups sifted plain flour
  • 1 cup undiluted evaporated milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Instructions

  1. Blend Crisco, butter, and sugar until the consistency of whipped cream.
  2. Add flavoring, fresh orange juice, and grated orange rind.
  3. Add salt.
  4. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing with a spatula from bottom to blend with butter and sugar.
  5. Add flour and milk alternately.
  6. Then add 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder.
  7. Bake at 275°F (135°C) for 2 hours.
