- Melt butter over low heat.
- Add 2 cups vanilla chips but do not stir the mixture.
- Set aside to cool.
- Beat eggs until foamy.
- Gradually add sugar, beating until lemon color.
- Stir in melted butter and vanilla chip mixture.
- Add 2 cups flour, salt, and almond extract; mix on low speed.
- Spread half of the batter in a greased and floured 9x13 inch pan.
- Set the other half of the batter aside.
- Bake at 325°F (160°C) for 15-20 minutes, until golden.
- Stir 2 cups vanilla chips into the remaining batter.
- Melt raspberry preserves and spread over the baked layer.
- Spread the remaining uncooked batter over the preserves and sprinkle with sliced almonds.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 35 minutes.
