Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 5 tablespoons flour
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa
  • a dash of salt
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 1/2 cups milk

Instructions

  1. Mix sugar, flour, cocoa, and salt in a saucepan.
  2. Gradually add milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens.
  3. Remove from heat.
  4. Add oleo (butter) and vanilla, stirring until melted and well combined.
  5. Pour the chocolate filling into a baked pie shell.
  6. Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form.
  7. Spread the beaten egg whites over the cooled pie filling.
  8. Brown the meringue lightly in the oven or with a kitchen torch.
  9. Cool the pie thoroughly before serving.
