Ingredients

  • 1 cup blanched chopped chestnuts
  • 1 small head of red cabbage
  • 1/4 cup dry wine or vinegar
  • 2 1/2 tablespoon bacon drippings or butter
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/4 cup dry wine or vinegar
  • 1/3 cup seedless raisins

Instructions

  1. Simmer the chestnuts, red cabbage, dry wine or vinegar, bacon drippings or butter, salt, and pepper until the chestnuts are tender.
  2. Add the flour, water, sugar, and additional dry wine or vinegar to the mixture.
  3. Cook until the ingredients are well blended and the flavors meld.
  4. Stir in the seedless raisins and cook briefly to combine.
  5. Serve hot.
