Tips & Substitutions

For a lighter texture, ensure the Crisco mixture cools to lukewarm before adding the yeast and eggs. If you don't have All-Bran cereal, you can substitute with bran flakes or a mix of oats and wheat bran. To enhance the flavor, consider adding a teaspoon of cinnamon or nutmeg. This dough can also be shaped into rolls or loaves, depending on your preference.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use fresh yeast instead of dry yeast?

Yes, you can substitute fresh yeast for dry yeast. Use about three times the amount of fresh yeast compared to dry. You will need approximately 6 ounces of fresh yeast. Ensure it is properly dissolved in warm water before adding it to the mixture.

How long can the dough be refrigerated?

The dough can be refrigerated for up to three days. This extended refrigeration allows the flavors to develop further. Just remember to let the dough come to room temperature for about 30 minutes before shaping into rolls or loaves for baking.

Can I add ingredients like raisins or nuts to the rolls?

Absolutely! Adding raisins, nuts, or even seeds can enhance the flavor and texture of your rolls. Just fold in about a cup of your chosen add-ins after the dough has come together but before the final rise. This adds a delightful twist and makes them even more nutritious.
