Ingredients

  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1 well beaten egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • strawberries

Instructions

  1. Sift flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt; cut in shortening until the mixture is like coarse crumbs.
  2. Combine egg and milk; add to the sifted dry ingredients, stirring just until moistened.
  3. Pour the batter into a greased pan and bake at 450°F for 20 minutes; cool.
  4. Prepare strawberries and place on top of a piece of cake; cover with whipped cream.
