Ingredients

  • 1 (12 to 14 lb.) turkey
  • 5 stalks celery
  • 5 medium white onions
  • 1 bell pepper
  • Cornbread
  • 2 slices toasted white bread
  • 1 1/2 sticks butter, melted
  • 5 eggs

Instructions

  1. Remove giblets and neck from turkey; reserve for giblet gravy. Cover giblets and neck with water and cook slowly until tender.
  2. Wash turkey thoroughly with cold water; pat dry.
  3. Rub salt over turkey and inside its cavity.
  4. Combine chopped celery, onions, and bell pepper in a large boiler; cover with water.
  5. Cook until onions are clear, celery is very tender, and most of the water is absorbed.
  6. Cool the cooked vegetables.
