  • 1/4 cup dried rosemary leaves
  • 1/4 cup broken cinnamon sticks
  • 1/4 cup dry leaves
  • 1 tablespoon whole cloves
  • 3 tablespoons orris root chips
  • 6 to 8 drops rose oil

  1. Mix together all ingredients in a glass container.
  2. Tightly cover the container.
  3. Let it sit for 2 to 4 weeks.
  4. Shake the container daily.

Tips & Substitutions

For a more aromatic potpourri, consider adding dried lavender or citrus peels. If you don’t have orris root, you can substitute with cornstarch, which helps the scent last longer. Ensure your dried flowers are completely dry to prevent mold. To enhance the fragrance, experiment with different essential oils like lavender or sandalwood along with the rose oil.

Serving Suggestions

Display the potpourri in small bowls or decorative jars throughout your home for a beautiful and fragrant touch. It pairs beautifully with a calming atmosphere, making it perfect for relaxation spaces or alongside scented candles. Consider using it as a thoughtful gift alongside a homemade treat like Diced Apple Cake or a jar of Fresh Fruit Jams.

Storage & Reheating

Store your potpourri in a cool, dark place to preserve the fragrance. Keep it sealed in an airtight glass container when not in use. If the scent fades, simply add a few more drops of rose oil to revive it. Avoid storing it in direct sunlight, which can degrade the quality of the flowers and oils.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the potpourri last?

The potpourri can last several months if stored properly. However, the scent may fade over time. To refresh it, simply add a few more drops of rose oil as needed. It's best to enjoy the potpourri within 6 months for optimal fragrance.

Can I use fresh flowers instead of dried ones?

Fresh flowers can be used, but they contain moisture, which can lead to mold. If you prefer using fresh flowers, dry them out first by hanging them upside down in a cool, dark place. This will preserve their color and scent for the potpourri.

Is this potpourri safe for pets?

While the ingredients are generally safe, some pets may be sensitive to certain dried flowers or essential oils. Always check which specific flowers are safe for your pets before using them in potpourri. If unsure, consult your veterinarian for guidance.
