Ingredients

  • 3 cups fresh fruit, cut-up
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup sifted self-rising flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Place the cut-up fresh fruit in a 9x9 inch square pan or a 9-inch round layer pan.
  3. Sprinkle the fruit with a mixture of 2/3 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, and cinnamon.
  4. Dot the fruit with small pieces of butter.
  5. In a separate bowl, sift together 1 cup self-rising flour and 2 tablespoons sugar.
  6. Add shortening, milk, and egg to the sifted mixture and stir with a fork until thoroughly blended.
  7. Drop spoonfuls of the batter over the prepared fruit.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes or until the topping is golden brown.
  9. Serve warm or cooled as desired.
