- Sift the regular flour, sugar, soda, and salt 3 or 4 times.
- Stir in the whole wheat flour.
- Cut in the margarine until the mixture resembles fine crumbs.
- Beat the eggs until frothy.
- Mix the eggs with the buttermilk and gradually add to the dry ingredients.
- Mix with a fork until a stiff dough forms.
- Knead on a floured board for 20 to 30 quick motions.
- Divide the dough into 2 balls.
- Place the balls well apart on a greased cookie sheet.
- Cut an 'X' about 1/2-inch deep in the top of each loaf.
- Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 45 to 50 minutes.
- Let stand about 30 minutes before serving for the best flavor.
- Slice in thick slices.
