Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. margarine
  • 1/3 c. sugar
  • 1 c. white flour
  • 1 c. whole wheat or rye flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 3/4 c. buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Cream margarine and sugar well.
  2. Sift dry ingredients together and add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk.
  3. On a lightly floured pastry board roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut 2-inch rounds.
  4. Place on ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 400° until brown.
  5. Split each biscuit in half and place on baking sheet.
  6. Bake at 200° for about 5 minutes or until light brown. Makes 4 dozen.
  7. Can be frozen.
