Ingredients

  • 3 medium onions
  • 2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
  • 2 lb. hamburger
  • 1 (1 lb. 3 oz.) can tomatoes
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1 apple
  • 1/3 c. lemon juice
  • 1/4 c. sugar

Instructions

  1. Chop onions coarsely.
  2. Melt butter or margarine in a heavy kettle; add chopped onions and hamburger.
  3. Cook over high heat until the meat is browned.
  4. Stir in canned tomatoes, salt, and pepper.
  5. Cover and cook slowly for 20 minutes.
  6. Shred the cabbage.
  7. Pare and chop the apple finely.
  8. Stir the cabbage, apple, lemon juice, and sugar into the hamburger mixture.
  9. Cover and cook gently for about 40 minutes.
