Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 packages yeast
  • 3 eggs

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F ten minutes before baking.
  2. Grease and flour a 10-inch tube pan.
  3. Heat milk, shortening, and water to very warm.
  4. In a large bowl, blend 1 1/3 cups of flour with sugar, salt, and dry yeast.
  5. Blend the warm liquids into the flour mixture at medium speed for 2 minutes.
  6. Add 2/3 cup of the remaining flour and eggs, then beat at high speed for 2 minutes.
  7. Add the rest of the flour and mix well.
  8. Cover and let rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
  9. Punch down the dough and turn into the prepared pan.
  10. Cover and let rise for about 30 minutes.
  11. Bake at 350°F for 40 to 50 minutes.
