Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup butter or Crisco
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon mace
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • raisins or nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Mix together butter, white sugar, brown sugar, and eggs.
  2. Mix baking soda with sour cream and add to the egg mixture.
  3. Sift together flour, baking powder, nutmeg, mace, and cloves, then add to the creamed mixture.
  4. Add raisins or nuts, if desired.
