- Peel and slice the potatoes.
- Add cornmeal, sugar, salt, and boiling water to the potatoes.

- Add lukewarm milk, water, soda, salt, and melted shortening.
- Add enough flour to make a stiff dough that can be kneaded until smooth and elastic.

- Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F until done.
