Ingredients

  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1/2 cup Crisco
  • 5 eggs
  • 3 tsp. lemon extract
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 3 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Cream butter, Crisco, and sugar thoroughly.
  2. Sift flour once.
  3. Add dry ingredients to the creamed mixture.
  4. Sift the flour mixture four more times for lightness.
  5. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  6. Stir in lemon extract.
  7. Gradually add milk, mixing until smooth.
  8. Pour batter into a prepared loaf pan.
  9. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  10. Allow to cool before removing from the pan.
