Ingredients

  • 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 cups flour
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 3 tablespoons margarine

Instructions

  1. Combine 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 cups of flour, sugar, salt, and active dry yeast in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Add water, milk, and margarine to the dry ingredients.
  3. Mix and knead the dough until smooth and elastic.
  4. Let the dough rise until it doubles in size, about 1 to 1.5 hours.
  5. Punch down the dough and shape into loaves.
  6. Place in greased loaf pans and let rise until nearly doubled, about 30 to 45 minutes.
  7. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for approximately 30 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Remove from pans and cool on wire racks before slicing.
