Shaker Strawberry Summer Pudding

Ingredients

  • 1/2 loaf white bread
  • 1 quart ripe strawberries
  • 3/4 to 1 cup sugar

Instructions

  1. Remove the crust from the bread.
  2. Mash and sweeten the strawberries with sugar.
  3. Line a pan with foil or wax paper and place the slices of bread on the bottom.
  4. Spoon the mashed strawberries over the bread.
  5. Alternate layers of strawberries and bread until the pan is filled.
  6. Cover with wax paper and a slightly smaller piece of cardboard.
  7. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 8 hours or overnight.
  8. Invert the pudding onto a platter to serve.
  9. Top with whipped cream.
  10. Scatter fresh berries on top and around the edge.
