Shortcut Baked Beans

Ingredients

  • 3 slices bacon
  • 1/2 c. chopped onion
  • 1 (31 oz.) can pork and beans in tomato sauce
  • 1/4 c. ketchup
  • 2 Tbsp. brown sugar or molasses
  • 2 tsp. prepared mustard
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. In a skillet cook bacon until crisp.
  2. Remove bacon, reserving 1 tablespoon for the drippings.
  3. Drain and crumble bacon.
  4. Set aside.
  5. Cook onion in reserved bacon drippings over medium heat until tender but not brown.
  6. Combine onion, pork and beans, ketchup, brown sugar or molasses, mustard and Worcestershire sauce in a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish.
  7. Bake in a 350° oven for 1 hour or to desired consistency.
  8. Stir bean mixture; top with bacon. Let stand 5 minutes before serving.
  9. Or, if preferred, you may cook ingredients in saucepan over low heat about 15 minutes or to desired consistency, stirring frequently.
  10. Top with bacon.
  11. Makes 4 servings.
