Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 cups unsifted flour
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 packages dry active yeast
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup margarine

Instructions

  1. Combine 1 1/2 cups flour with the sugar, salt, and dry active yeast.
  2. Combine milk, water, and margarine in a saucepan.
  3. Warm over low heat to 115° to 120°F.
  4. Remove from heat and gradually add the flour mixture.
  5. Beat 2 minutes at medium speed, scraping sides of the bowl occasionally.
  6. Add 1/2 cup flour and beat on high for 2 minutes.
  7. Stir in additional flour to form a soft dough.
  8. Turn out onto a lightly floured board.
  9. Knead 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  10. Place in a greased bowl, turn over, and grease the top.
  11. Let rise for 15 minutes.
  12. Turn out on a floured board, divide dough in half, and shape into rolls.
  13. Cover and let rest in a warm place for 15 minutes.
  14. Bake at 425°F for 12 minutes or until done.
