Ingredients

  • 2 cups shortening
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 5 1/2 cups flour
  • 4 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 4 teaspoons cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Cream together shortening, 3 cups of sugar, eggs, and vanilla.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and cinnamon.
  3. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, mixing well.
  4. Shape dough into balls and roll in the remaining 4 tablespoons of sugar.
  5. Place on ungreased baking sheets and flatten slightly.
  6. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 8-10 minutes or until golden.
  7. Remove from oven and cool on wire racks.
