Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups self-rising flour, sifted
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup very soft shortening
  • 4 egg whites
  • 2/3 cup sweet milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour a cake pan.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine sifted self-rising flour and sugar.
  4. Add the very soft shortening and mix until crumbly.
  5. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
  6. Gradually fold the egg whites into the flour mixture.
  7. Stir in sweet milk and vanilla until smooth.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  9. Bake for approximately 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. Allow to cool before serving.
