Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon shortening
  • 2 tablespoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Mix all ingredients well until smooth.
  2. Drop teaspoonfuls of the batter into hot oil.
  3. Cook until lightly browned, then turn to cook the other side.
  4. Remove from oil and roll in sugar if desired.
