Southern bread pudding combines soft biscuit crumbs with warm milk, eggs, vanilla, and nutmeg, creating a comforting dessert perfect for family gatherings or cozy occasions.

Ingredients

  • 2 c. milk
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. raisins (optional)
  • 4 c. biscuit crumbs
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • nutmeg to taste

Instructions

  1. Mix milk, eggs, and vanilla together in a saucepan.
  2. Place over heat until hot, but do not boil.
  3. Line a baking dish with biscuit crumbs mixed with melted butter.
  4. Pour the hot milk mixture over the biscuit crumbs.
  5. Sprinkle with nutmeg.
  6. Place the baking dish on a pan of hot water in a 350°F oven.
  7. Bake for 45 minutes.
