Ingredients

  • 2 c. meal
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. grease
  • cold water

Instructions

  1. Sift and measure the meal.
  2. Add salt and shortening to the meal.
  3. Mix into a dough with cold water, letting it stand for a minute, adding more water if necessary.
  4. Shape into small pones and place on a hot, greased shallow pan, leaving space between them.
  5. Put into a hot oven for 10 minutes, then reduce to medium heat.
  6. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes until golden brown.
  7. If using a gas oven, place under flame until slightly browned, then move to the oven about the center with moderate heat.
  8. Serve with vegetables.
