  • 1/2 cup white Karo syrup
  • 3/4 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 package chocolate chips

  1. Put Rice Krispies in a mixing bowl and set aside.
  2. Boil sugar, Karo syrup, and butter together for 1 minute.
  3. Take off stove and add the peanut butter, then pour over the Rice Krispies and stir.
  4. Spread into a greased 9 x 13-inch pan and press down.
  5. Melt together in a double boiler the butterscotch chips and chocolate chips, stirring occasionally, being careful not to splash with water.
  6. Spread melted chips over the Rice Krispies in the pan.
  7. Cool completely, then cut before it hardens.

Tips & Substitutions

For a richer flavor, consider using dark chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet. If you want a crunchier texture, add chopped nuts like peanuts or almonds to the Rice Krispies mixture. Ensure your mixing bowl is dry when combining the melted chips to avoid any moisture, which can impact the consistency. For a fun twist, try substituting butterscotch chips with caramel bits for a different flavor profile.

Serving Suggestions

They also pair beautifully with coffee or hot chocolate. For a festive touch, drizzle some melted white chocolate over the top before cutting them into squares. Storage & Reheating

Store leftover bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. If the bars become too hard, you can microwave them for about 10-15 seconds to soften slightly before serving. Alternatively, refrigerate for a firmer texture, but allow them to sit at room temperature for a few minutes before enjoying to regain some softness.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use crunchy peanut butter instead of creamy?

Yes, using crunchy peanut butter will add a nice texture to the bars. Just keep in mind that it may alter the overall smoothness of the mixture, but it will still taste delicious and provide extra crunch.

What can I substitute for Karo syrup?

If you don’t have Karo syrup, you can use honey or agave syrup as a substitute. Both will add sweetness, but may slightly change the flavor and texture. Just ensure the substitution maintains the same volume for best results.

How do I know when the sugar mixture is ready?

The sugar mixture is ready when it reaches a boil and has been boiling for about one minute. It should have a smooth consistency without any graininess. Keep a close watch to avoid burning, as sugar can go from perfect to overcooked quickly.
