Ingredients

  • 1 small red cabbage
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 3 cloves
  • 2 cooking apples
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • some vinegar
  • salt

Instructions

  1. Remove the outer leaves of the cabbage.
  2. Cut the cabbage in halves and remove the core.
  3. Wash and shred the cabbage very thinly.
  4. Put a little butter or margarine in a saucepan with 1 cup of water, then add the shredded cabbage, cloves, peeled, cored, and sliced apples.
  5. Simmer the vegetables with a tight-fitting lid on the pan for 45 minutes.
  6. Add the remaining butter or margarine, sugar, and some vinegar, then simmer for another 5 minutes.
