- Remove the outer leaves of the cabbage.
- Cut the cabbage in halves and remove the core.
- Wash and shred the cabbage very thinly.
- Put a little butter or margarine in a saucepan with 1 cup of water, then add the shredded cabbage, cloves, peeled, cored, and sliced apples.
- Simmer the vegetables with a tight-fitting lid on the pan for 45 minutes.
- Add the remaining butter or margarine, sugar, and some vinegar, then simmer for another 5 minutes.
