Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 2 envelopes plain gelatin
  • 2 cups spicy tomato juice
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon powdered sugar
  • dash of cayenne pepper
  • dash of celery salt
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 small onion, cut up
  • a few celery leaves
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Soften the gelatin in cold water.
  2. Simmer the tomato juice, salt, powdered sugar, cayenne pepper, celery salt, bay leaf, onion, and celery leaves for 15 minutes.
  3. Strain the mixture to remove solids.
  4. Add the softened gelatin and lemon juice to the strained liquid, stirring until the gelatin is dissolved.
  5. Allow the mixture to cool slightly, then add chopped celery, black olives, and onion.
  6. Pour into molds or a dish and chill until firm.
