Tips & Substitutions

For a thicker soup, consider adding a cornstarch slurry or pureeing a portion of the soup. If you want to reduce sodium, use low-sodium broth mix or make your own broth. Fresh spinach can be substituted for frozen; just wilt it down before adding. Incorporate herbs like dill or thyme for added flavor, making it a delightful twist on traditional American recipes.

Serving Suggestions

This Spinach Cheese Soup pairs well with crusty bread or a side salad for a complete meal. Consider serving it alongside Easy Drop Rolls for a comforting touch. Garnish with croutons or a sprinkle of freshly grated cheese for added texture and flavor. It makes a great starter or a light main dish.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, warm gently on the stove over low heat, stirring frequently to avoid curdling the milk. If the soup thickens too much, add a splash of milk or broth to reach your desired consistency.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use fresh spinach instead of frozen?

Yes, you can absolutely use fresh spinach! Just chop it and add it to the pot after bringing your broth to a boil. Cook until it wilts down before adding the noodles. Fresh spinach will provide a vibrant color and flavor to the soup.

How can I make this soup vegetarian?

To make this soup vegetarian, simply substitute the chicken-flavored broth mix with a vegetable broth mix and use vegetable broth instead of water. This maintains the flavor while keeping it suitable for vegetarian diets, allowing everyone to enjoy this delicious dish.

Can I freeze the soup for later use?

While you can freeze the soup, it's best to do so without the dairy. To freeze, prepare the soup up to the point of adding milk and cheese, then cool completely and transfer to freezer-safe containers. When ready to serve, thaw and reheat, then stir in the milk and cheese before serving.
