Ingredients

  • 2 lb stewing meat
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 cup peas
  • 1 Bisquick recipe for dumplings
  • 2 small cans tomato sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 4 medium carrots

Instructions

  1. Brown the stewing meat in a greased 2-quart baking dish in a 375°F oven. Remove and set aside.
  2. Add salt, 1 1/2 cups tomato sauce, water, and sliced onion to the dish. Cover and bake for 45 minutes.
  3. Add the chopped carrots and peas to the dish.
  4. Cover and bake for an additional 45 minutes or until the vegetables are tender.
  5. Prepare Bisquick dough, substituting 1/2 can of tomato sauce for milk.
  6. Roll out the dough to 1/4-inch thickness and cut into 2-inch biscuits.
  7. Place the biscuits on top of the stew.
  8. Bake for about 20 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.
