Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. angel food cake mix
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 (3 oz.) pkg. strawberry Jell-O
  • 1 pound frozen sliced strawberries
  • 1 pint whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Red food coloring
  • Fresh strawberries, cut in half (optional)

Instructions

  1. Dissolve the strawberry Jell-O in boiling water.
  2. Add frozen sliced strawberries to the Jell-O, stirring to break up and mix the berries.
  3. Place the baked and cooled angel food cake on a serving plate with the widest side down.
  4. Cut a 1-inch layer from the top of the cake and set aside.
  5. Cut around the cake 1 inch from the outer edge to 1 inch from the bottom, then cut around 1 inch from the inner edge to 1 inch from the bottom.
  6. Gently remove the section of cake between the cuts, tearing it into small pieces.
  7. Fold the cake pieces into the strawberry mixture.
  8. Pour the strawberry mixture into the cake shell.
  9. Replace the cake top and refrigerate until set.
