  3. Spread chopped plum tomatoes, chopped onions, turkey pastrami, oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper over the surface of the dough in that order.
  4. Roll the dough lengthwise in a jellyroll fashion.
  5. Pinch the edges to secure the ingredients inside.
  6. Place the rolled dough on a nonstick cookie sheet.
  7. Bake at 400°F for 40 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Allow to cool well before slicing.
  9. Cut into 3/4-inch slices just before serving.

Tips & Substitutions

For a flavorful twist, consider adding sliced bell peppers or mushrooms along with the onions. If you don't have turkey pastrami, any deli meat like ham or salami can work well. Be sure to stretch the dough evenly to avoid uneven cooking. Keep an eye on the baking time, as oven temperatures can vary.

Serving Suggestions

Serve slices of Stromboli with a side of marinara sauce for dipping. A fresh green salad or garlic bread complements this dish nicely. For a heartier meal, consider pairing it with Italian Sausage And Peppershouston, Texas. This dish can also be an excellent addition to a party platter.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftover Stromboli in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, wrap slices in foil and warm in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 10-15 minutes, or until heated through. You can also use a microwave, but this may make the crust less crispy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I freeze Stromboli, and if so, how?

Yes, you can freeze Stromboli. Allow it to cool completely, then wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and aluminum foil. It can be frozen for up to 3 months. To reheat, thaw overnight in the refrigerator and bake as directed, or bake from frozen, adding additional time.

What can I substitute for the garlic powder?

If you prefer fresh garlic, you can substitute 1 clove of minced garlic for the 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder. Just be sure to sauté the minced garlic briefly with the onions to soften its flavor before adding it to the dough.

Is there a vegetarian version of Stromboli?

Absolutely! For a vegetarian version, simply omit the turkey pastrami and add more vegetables such as spinach, zucchini, or artichoke hearts. You can also incorporate different cheeses for added flavor. This makes a delicious option for those looking for meatless Italian recipes.
