- Fry bacon in a Dutch oven until crisp.
- Remove bacon and reserve 3 tablespoons of drippings in the Dutch oven.
- Crumble bacon and set aside.
- Saute onion in the reserved drippings until tender.
- Add potatoes and water to the Dutch oven.
- Cover and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes or until potatoes are done.
- Stir in milk, cream-style corn, salt, and black pepper.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently until heated through.
- Serve the chowder topped with crumbled bacon.
