Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Cream together brown sugar, 1/2 cup sugar, shortening, vanilla, and egg; mix well.
  2. Add cream of tartar, flour, baking soda, and salt; mix well.
  3. Roll into 1-inch balls and roll into sugar.
  4. Place on ungreased cookie sheets, 2 inches apart.
  5. Bake at 350°F for 10 minutes, or until done.
